What is TLI?

TLI is Toastmasters Leadership Institute. TLI provides training for the entire district. This includes Summer and Winter TLI Club Officer Training.

What type of training is provided at Summer TLI Club Officer Training?

A typical training has both:
  • Club officer breakout sessions and
  • Workshops on general topics, such as How to Run a Successful Speech Contest and How to Make Your Club Distinguished –The Distinguished Club Program.

District 46 also holds “Super Saturday” training with special guest speakers.

Why attend TLI Club Officer Training twice a year?

  • Help your club earn Distinguished Club Program (DCP) credit.
  • What you learn here will help you become a more successful, effective club officer and leader year round. Toast-master the skills in a fun setting!
  • Trained club officers translate into a club’s ultimate success. Last year having 100% club officers trained correlated with Distinguished Club status.
  • Networking – Meet your peers in the District. Make new friends.
  • It’s both fun and educational.

Who can attend TLI Club Officer Training?

Training is open to all Toastmasters members. Every Club Officer should attend in order to effectively fulfill their roles and help get Distinguished Club Program (DCP) credit for their club.

How do I register for TLI Club Officer Training?

Register online at Officer Training Schedule. Choose the date and location best for you. (Non-officers register as non-officers.) Your will get an email confirmation. Walk-ins/On-site registration open 30 minutes before the start time.

How much does TLI Club Officer Training cost?

Training is Free to all Toastmasters members.

How will my club earn DCP credit for TLI Officer Training?

The full DCP credit (Goal 9) is earned when at least four (4) club officers are trained during both the summer and winter. Half (1/2) DCP credit is earned in the summer, and the other half in the winter. It is District 46’s expectation that at least four (4) club officers are trained during both the summer and winter.

Can I attend TLI Club Officer Training in another District and still receive DCP credit for my club within District 46?

Yes, as long as a scanned copy of the completed TLI Attendance Verification Form (or equivalent) from the other District is emailed to the TLI Registration Chair.

Our club trained several officers but the number of officers trained is not reflected on the Toastmasters International website. Why not?

Recording officer training on the Toastmasters International website requires manual input of each officer trained, as Toastmasters has no automated system. Because of this, we only perform infrequent batch updates on the official website during the training period. If you attended training, your club will receive credit.

If I hold more than one (1) full club officer role within one (1) club or many clubs, do I have to attend multiple TLI trainings for all roles in order to get DCP credit?

No, register for one (1) training in the summer and one (1) in the winter. Choose the one (1) officer role on which you would like training. If an officer at more than one (1) club, register as a “Dual” officer. At the training, list all Officer roles and clubs on the TLI Attendance Verification form. Toastmasters International strongly suggests you attend a separate TLI training for the other roles, but this is not required by District 46 for DCP credit. Contact the TLI Registration Chair to ensure accurate reporting.

Can I obtain DCP credit for TLI training if I am a Co-Officer for a Club Officer Role?

Co-Officers will count as “one officer trained” toward DCP Goal #9. It is better if you both attend training in the summer and winter to be effective. You and your Co-Officer decide who gets credit for the summer, and who gets credit for the winter. Let your Club President and Club Vice President of Education know.

Is food provided at the TLI Club Officer Training?

The Officer Training Schedule will indicate when food is provided at a training. In any event, anyone with food allergies or special dietary needs should bring your own food.

Is it possible for District 46 to send trainers to train club officers at our club?

No, District 46 does not provide this option.

If I am unable to attend a scheduled TLI Club Officer Training but am registered, can another member be designated from the club to attend in my place?

Yes, please notify the TLI Registration Chair and Training Host before the training. However, for a club to receive credit for training an officer, the officeholder himself or herself must attend training. Sending a member in place of an officer will not credit the club for training that officer.

What do I do if I get lost or run late to the TLI training session?

Please plan your commute ahead and arrive on time. After all, time management is a Competent Leadership skill. If necessary, contact the TLI Training host for directions.
